The Tidewater Singers will present ‘Light Shines in the Darkness’ by Michael John Trotta along with a selection of choruses by Beethoven, Copland, Mendelssohn and others on Friday, May 10 at 8:00 pm at Christ Church in St. Michaels and on Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 pm at Trinity Cathedral in Easton.
Under the direction of William Thomas, the Tidewater Singers is a select group of professional and amateur singers founded in 2001. The goal is to bring varied and exciting quality choral music to the Eastern Shore.
“Trotta’s work, in eight movements, is drawn from texts that examine the many facets of death, the mystery of transition, and the hope of peace and tranquility,” said Thomas. “The music is at the same time both haunting and serene. We are dedicating this concert to the work of Talbot Hospice in providing quality end-of-life care.”
Now in his eleventh season as artistic director of the Tidewater Singers, Thomas is organist/choir director at Christ Church in St. Michaels and is associate professor of music at Chesapeake College. Previously he directed the choirs at Easton High School. Accompanying the singers is organist, Susan Zimmer. Zimmer is on the faculty of Salisbury University as an adjunct instructor and staff accompanist.
