Located at 214 North Morris Street, The Treasure Chest is a small gift shop featuring local and artisanal treasures. This year the shop will be owned and operated by local artist, Joan Nubie. Joan is fondly known by many as Joan’s Gems, her business she has operated for 11 years, which features her jewelry and wire art. Joan’s Gems has a presence for many years at local Farmers Markets and craft shows.
“Having the opportunity to take over The Treasure Chest allows me to keep a presence in the Oxford area, which is special to me, as well as expand and diversify my current business,” says Joan. Joan is not a new face to the business. She has been involved with The Treasure Chest since its inception in 2011. Local business owner, Susan Campbell, started the small shop to serve as an outlet and visitors center in the Town. Susan states, “When I first came up to the idea to open I contacted Joan because she was such a talent and I knew she would bring a lot to the venture. After the first two years it was an obvious time to have her to take over and expand its operation in order to diversify her portfolio of talents.”
Offerings will, of course, include jewelry by Joan’s Gems – as well as artwork by local artists, stained glass by Endless Creations in Glass, Oxford memorabilia, soaps made in Maryland, embroidered nautical-themed hand towels and baby items, Tervis tumblers, Skipper Bags, and other select items.
The season will kick off with an Open House on Friday, April 12, from Noon to 4 pm and all are welcome to stop in. Also, on Oxford Day, visitors are encouraged to stop in for a drawing of a gift basket and Oxford Jacket that will be given away that Day.
Spring and summer hours for the The Treasure Chest are Wednesday through Monday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (closed Tuesday). Inquiries are welcome at 410-924-8817 and [email protected].
