The Tred Avon Players will present Moss Hart’s witty backstage comedy “Light Up the Sky,” opening April 28 at the Oxford Community Center and directed by Pat Murphy Sheehy.
The play takes place in the luxurious hotel room of a Broadway actress prior to the out-of-town opening of a new play. It follows an ensemble cast of outrageous characters, including the grandly temperamental leading lady and her sarcastic, gin-rummy playing mother, the flamboyant director, and the lowbrow producer and his smart-aleck wife. Meanwhile, the idealistic playwright sees his magnum opus absurdly eviscerated by a series of events and clashes of artists’ egos in this brilliant satire.
Sheehy was Producing Artistic Director emeritus of the Source Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., where she directed, produced or performed in more than 100 plays during her 11 years with the renowned professional arts institution. Previously for TAP, she directed “The Wake of Jamey Foster” in 2006 and “Leading Ladies” in 2010.
“Light Up the Sky” opens on “Thrifty Thursday,” April 28 at 7 p.m., featuring two-for-one tickets. Other performance dates are Fridays and Saturdays, April 29, 30, May 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 8 p.m., and Sundays, May 1, 8 and 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for students with ID. For tickets, visit www.tredavonplayers.org or call 410-226-0061.
The Tred Avon Players are funded by an operating grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive, and from the Talbot County Arts Council.
