Easton Library to Host Discussion of Graham Green’s “The Quiet American”
On Monday, August 19, at 6:30 p.m., in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, the Easton Book Group (which is open to all) will discuss one of Graham Greene’s greatest novels.
“The Quiet American” is a classic tale of the follies that can occur when American innocence comes up against an Old World evil. Its first-person narrator says of the American in question, “I never knew a man who had better motives for all the trouble he caused.” Published in 1955, the story takes place in Vietnam at a time when the French were still nominally in charge.
