Easton Library Continues Its Women’s Suffrage Celebration with Aretha Franklin Film
On Monday, February 10, at 6:00 p.m., in honor of the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage in America, the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library will continue its celebration of the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage in America with a free showing of “Amazing Grace” on the library’s big, professional screen. This award-winning, 1½-hour documentary revolves around a 1972 Aretha Franklin concert at The New Bethel Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles. Released in 2018, the film is rated G. Easton Library to Host the Sparky and Rhonda Rucker Show
On Saturday, February 15, at 11:00 a.m., as part of the 2020 Fire & Ice Festival, Sparky and Rhonda Rucker will perform their trademark blend of music, humor, and great storytelling in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library. Pete Seeger called Sparky Rucker “Unique. He’ll make you glad to be alive and struggling.”
Sparky and Rhonda have performed throughout the U.S. and overseas, singing songs and telling stories from the American folk tradition. Sparky is internationally recognized as a leading folklorist, musician, historian, storyteller, and author. He accompanies himself with finger-style picking and bottleneck blues guitar, banjo, and spoons. Rhonda Rucker is a musician, children’s book author, storyteller, and songwriter. Her blues-style harmonica, piano, old-time banjo, and bones add musical versatility to their performances. Chicago radio host Rich Warren said of the duo, “They really raised the roof. Sparky and Rhonda work flawlessly together and embody the essence of folk music.
