The library and AAUW (The American Association of University Women), are sponsoring this event. Why They Marched: Untold Stories of the Women Who Fought for the Right to Vote, by Susan Ware, recounts the stories of 19 women most of us have never heard of, speaking for votes for women in every small town they came to. “Ware’s excellent compendium expertly shows there are new ways to tell the suffrage story. Easton Library to Host Lecture on “The Plant Geek-Potted—Gardening on the Edge”
On Tuesday, February 25, at 1:30 p.m., in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, and the Talbot County Garden Club welcomes Louis Raymond, who will present, “The Plant Geek” on “Potted–Gardening on the Edge.” He will talk about expanding the limits of gardening in pots, pools, troughs and even in drinking glasses and forgotten vases. Louis has been published in national publications and was for six years the Show Designer for the New England Spring Flower & Garden Show.

Easton Library to Host Get Caught Reading Reception
On Tuesday, February 25, at 5:30 p.m., in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, will offer a special reception for the Get Caught Reading competition. All are invited to see the wonderful, imaginative entries from the competition, enjoy light refreshments, and have a chance to win door prizes. The grand prize of a $50.00 gift card will also be awarded to someone who entered the contest. You must attend the reception to win. Easton Library to Offer Lecture- “Frederick Douglass’s People: The Baileys of Talbot County in Slavery and Freedom”
On Thursday, February 27, at 6:00 p.m., the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library will offer a lecture entitled“Frederick Douglass’s People: The Baileys of Talbot County in Slavery and Freedom”. Professor Ezra Greenspan will survey the history of one of the leading families of Talbot County in its radical transformation over the mid-nineteenth-century decades of slavery, war, and emancipation. At the same time, he will provide a quick primer on how to use local and state records and resources for researching African American family genealogy and history. Ezra Greenspan is this year’s Patrick Henry Writing Fellow at the Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College. He comes to the Eastern Shore from his home in Dallas, TX, where he teaches courses on American literature, history, and life writing at Southern Methodist University, to pursue work on a comprehensive biography of the Bailey-Douglass family.

On Thursday, February 27, at 2:00 p.m., the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library will host a watercolor workshop. This is the last in a series of four workshops held on Thursdays in February. This workshop will be presenting six instructional DVDs by the famous watercolorist Eric Weigardt. The DVDs show how to create better watercolor paintings from photographs. You will learn connecting shapes, color mixing, and more. Come and listen or bring your own paints or sketch books and follow along. No reservations are needed. All library programs are free and open to the public.
