Easton Library to Offer Needlepoint Program
On Monday, March 12, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library will once again offer its popular Stitching Time program. Patrons are invited to come and work on their favorite project with a group. Limited instruction will be available for beginners. Newcomers welcome. Easton Library to Screen Emmy Award-winning Civil Rights Documentary
On Monday, March 12, at 6:00 p.m., the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library will offer a free showing of “Miles of Smiles: The Years of Struggle” on the library’s big professional screen. “Miles of Smiles,” filmed by Academy Award-winning director Paul Wagner, tells the story of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, which, under the leadership of A. Philip Randolph, became the first black union to win major concessions in wages and working conditions from an important American corporation.
The Brotherhood also played a central role in the nation’s civil rights movement. It was sleeping car porter E. D. Nixon who—under the guidance of Randolph—organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott that first brought Martin Luther King, Jr., into the Civil Rights Movement. Dr. Melissa McLoud, who performed much of the archival research for the film, will be on hand to talk about its production and answer questions.“Mile of Smiles” is being shown as part of the yearlong celebration of Frederick Douglass’s bicentennial.

St. Michaels Library to Offer Bay Hundred Chess
On Wednesdays, March 14 & 21, April 11 & 25, and May 9 & 23, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library will offer patrons the chance to learn and play the strategic game of chess. Easton Library to Offer Lunch & Learn: Illustrating a Children’s Book
On Thursday, March 15, at noon, in the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library, illustrator Heather Crow will explain how she created the images for the picture book “Wind and Oyster Jack”—written by Marcia G. Moore and published by Schiffer in November of 2017.This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Patrons are invited to bring their lunch, the Friends will provide coffee and dessert. St. Michaels Library to Offer Day of Family Games
