One of the great, if sometimes less obvious, advantages of having a robust second home community like Talbot County does, is that these weekenders not only bring tax dollars and help drive the local economy but act as cultural carriers who share what’s exciting and new in the world of music, art, film and performance happening in places like New York City and Washington, D.C.
A perfect example of this phenomenon is Easton’s Jeffrey Parker.
During the week, Jeffrey runs an extraordinarily successful interior design firm on the East Side of Manhattan, and actively pursues his love of music at night in the Big Apple, but he also finds himself just as active when he retreats to his Easton home on the weekends. In fact, Parker serves on the boards of the Academy Art Museum, the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and the Easton Choral Arts Society as evidence of his passion for musical performance and art.
And when the time came to come up with an idea for a fundraising concert for the Easton Choral Arts Society, Jeffrey immediately suggested that Sachal Vasandani, one of New York City’s hottest jazz vocalists, would be a good choice. Having seen Sachal when he premiered with Wynton Marsalis as part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center program a few years ago, Parker has seen Vasandani’s career explode with top billing at some of NYC’s best nightclubs and performance venues. Only a New Yorker would know that Sachal was perfect to bring to Easton.
In this short conversation with Jeffrey, he talks to the Spy about the unique skills this once white collar stock broker brings to the music scene, and what people can expect when he performs at the Avalon on October 9th.
