This year, The Working Artists Forum (WAF) is pleased to announce its continued participation through annual cash donations as an ongoing effort to foster visual art in our local public schools.
WAF is a nonprofit organization of professional working artists who meet monthly for demonstrations and discussion at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD. At ninety members strong, they actively show their work both separately and together, while maintaining a strong interest in pro bono work within the Eastern Shore community. As in previous years, a portion of the proceeds from “Local Color” is set aside to supplement art supplies in various elementary schools on the Eastern Shore. These donations are made on a rotating basis to twelve schools located in Talbot, Queen Anne’s, Dorchester, Caroline and Kent Counties. After the success of this year’s “Local Color”, the members of WAF were able to increase their support of the elementary schools by 60%.
Before schools adjourned for the holidays, members of WAF spread out over five counties to hand deliver gift cards. Although many of the art teachers were prepared for the scheduled visit, a few did not have a clue until the principal made a surprise visit to the teacher while class was in session. All of this year’s recipients were delighted and grateful for the extra boost to their annual classroom allocations.
Members of WAF believe that our teachers and students are an important part of the vibrant art community of the Eastern Shore and are grateful for the chance to assist in the growth and development of our young artists. WAF’s artist members are committed to a continued effort to maintain a strong arts presence on the Eastern Shore and help “keep the creative spark alive.”
