Originating in China, tai chi is one of the most effective exercises for the health of mind and body. Although an art with great depth of knowledge and skill, it can be easy to learn and delivers its health benefits quickly. For many, it continues as a lifelong journey. (Tai Chi for Arthritis, Dr. Paul Lam)
Almost anyone can learn the Tai Chi for Arthritis program. I can personally attest to that. Though it has taken me months to find my chi, I must say there is improvement each time I practice.
The essential principles include integration of mind and body, an attempt at fluidity of movements, and conscious control of proper breathing.
The Tai Chi for Arthritis program is based on Sun style, one of the five major tai chi styles. It is unique in its higher stance, making it easier to learn. Each movement is very slow and deliberate, with a focus on balance and fall prevention.
The key health benefits of tai chi include:
• Increased flexibility and muscle strength
• Reduction in stress
• Improved immunity
• Better body posture
If you are looking for something new or feel the desire to rekindle a past relationship with tai chi, take your time and give it a go!
As Dr. Lam proclaims, “There is no hurry in Tai Chi.”
