Character Counts Mid Shore (CCMS) is seeking volunteers to serve as Character Coaches for the upcoming school year in Talbot, Caroline and Dorchester counties. Training and supplies are offered by CCMS and volunteers are placed in the school and grade of their choice pending availability. Lessons are based on the Six Pillars of Character – trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. CCMS is entering its 18th year in the public schools and is reaching an average of 8,100 students per school year.
“The opportunity that I’ve had to serve as a Character Counts Coach at Easton Elementary School has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my life, ” states Len Foxwell, “Through this very special program, I have had the opportunity to work with remarkable children from all social and economic backgrounds, reinforcing timeless values such as respect, responsibility and trustworthiness. While I firmly believe these lessons will serve these children well as they progress through life, I can assure you that I’ve gained far more from them than they ever will from me. I look forward to remaining involved in the Character Counts program for many years to come.”
The time committment is 15 minutes per class once a week in the lower grades and once a month in the higher grades.
