Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-MD) today announced that the City of Crisfield and Somerset County have been awarded a $78,418 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) to update Crisfield Municipal Airport’s master plan, which will help upgrade operations and improve safety.
“This grant reflects my commitment to making sure airport travel continues to be safe and efficient,” said Senator Cardin. “Crisfield Municipal Airport provides an important service to people traveling to and from the Delmarva area. This federal grant will ensure the smooth operation and future safety of those using the airport.”
“Our regional airports play a key role in maintaining Maryland’s robust economy,” Senator Mikulski said. “These federal dollars will help the Crisfield Municipal Airport operate safely and efficiently while keeping Marylanders on the go.”
Updating the master plan will include three steps. First, in an effort to improve safety, aerial reconnaissance will be conducted around the airport to ensure there are no obstructions that could pose a threat to airplanes. There also will be an environmental assessment of the airport and its impact on the surrounding area. The final step involves reviewing the overall layout of the airport. The master plan should take approximately nine months to complete.
