The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra will celebrate the holiday season with its annual “Holiday Joy” concert at the Avalon and an all new “New Year’s Eve with the MSO” concert at Christ Church in Easton.
This year’s Holiday Joy Concert will be held at the Avalon Theatre, Thursday, December 10th at 7:00 PM, featuring Sharin Apostolou, soprano and Yevgeny Dokshansky, saxophone.
Sharin, a native of New Jersey graduated from the Portland Opera Studio. With her clear supple soprano voice she bridges the opera-musical theatre gap and brings exuberance to often dazzling performances. Her roles this year encompass “My Fair Lady” and “Lakme.” Yevgeny, born in Belarus conducts and plays clarinet as well as saxophone. He trained at SUNY, winning two first prizes in concerto compositions,
Jacob’s School of music, Indiana University and DePaul University, Chicago. He is music director of Ensemble Next Parallel in Washington D.C.
The orchestral and vocal program will have old and new Christmas carols, selections from the Handel and Tchaikovsky; compositions by Telemann, Wendell, Monk and Leroy Anderson’s rousing “Trumpeter’s Lullaby.”

This year’s New Year’s Eve concert with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony will be held at Christ Church, 111 S. Harrison St. Easton, December 31 at 7:00 PM, featuring soprano, Meghan McCall.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve with music in Easton’s historic Christ Church at this inaugural concert. Soprano Meghan McCall who has been described by the Washington Post as having “bell-like clarity” and “a radiant full-bodied voice” will solo. She has established herself as one of the finest young artists of opera today.
The program will include excerpts from Haydn’s exciting Symphony No. 101,”The Clock,” written after Haydn landed in England on New Year’s Day in 1791. It was an instant success with London audiences. From Italy there will be selections from Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” Respighi’s “Ancient Airs and Dances” and Puccini’s “La Bohème.” From Austria we will hear Johann Strauss songs and waltzes, like “Wiener Blut” and “Blue Danube.“ With American songs and a little Jazz we come home. Join us to ring in the New Year with an evening of musical celebration!
