University of Maryland Memorial Hospital Foundation will host its annual women’s seminar, “From a Woman’s Point of View: Nurturing Your Physical and Financial Wellbeing” on Thursday, October 30 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Talbot Country Club, located at 6142 Country Club Drive in Easton. Presentations will include: “How to Take ‘Every Day’ Prescriptions and Combinations to Avoid” and “Action Steps to Protect Your Financial Health in 2014.”
Guest presenters are Thomas S. Sisca, PharmD, FCCP, BCPS, CACP, FNAP, Clinical Pharmacist, Antithrombosis Specialist, at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health and Professor of Pharmacy Practice at University of Maryland School of Pharmacy; and Deborah H. Walsworth, CPA, CFP, CPC, Senior Manager, CBIZ MHM, LLC & Mayer Hoffman McCann, P.C.
Medication errors affect more than 1 million people annually in the United States. During the presentation “How to Take ‘Every Day’ Prescriptions and Combinations to Avoid,” Thomas S. Sisca, PharmD will discuss the medications and ‘every day’ prescriptions you take, including possible side effects, dangerous combinations to avoid, how and when to take your medications, how to prevent adverse reactions, safe medication storage and questions/concerns to share with your doctor, pharmacist and other health care providers.
Deborah Walsworth will present the financial portion of this seminar, titled “Action Steps to Protect Your Financial Health in 2014.” Participants will gain information about how to achieve and maintain personal financial health, covering areas of planning, including estate, income tax, long term care, net worth and investment strategy, personal security (home computer, credit report and identity theft protection), and documentation (wills, advance directive, power of attorney).
Thomas Sisca earned a B.Sc. Pharmacy and a PharmD from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy (PCP&S) and is a Clinical Pharmacist and Antithrombosis Specialist at UM Shore Medical Center at Easton. He has maintained an active clinical pharmacy practice at this same institution for 40 years. He developed clinical pharmacy services at this hospital and now at the Shore Regional Health System, which includes the medical centers at Dorchester and Easton, Maryland. As a Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy, Sisca also teaches part-time. Sisca has published over 20 articles and has made over 250 presentations at local, state, national and international meetings.
Debbie Walsworth is a Senior Manager and Tax Practice Leader with CBIZ MHM LLC in its Easton, Maryland office. She has over 27 years experience in public accounting, and she provides tax compliance and consulting services, financial planning services, long-term care consulting and retirement benefit planning. Walsworth holds the designations of CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and CPC (Certified Pension Consultant). She obtained her B.S. in accounting from Wilmington University and is in the process of completing her M.S. in Taxation through the University of Baltimore, School of Law.
