“Voices from the Lane” will be the topic of Dale Glenwood Green’s talk at the monthly Brown Bag Lunch on May 15 at the Easton Branch of the Talbot County Free Library.
Green, an assistant professor of architecture and historic preservation at Morgan State University, will talk about the exciting archaeological exploration of the Easton neighborhood known as “The Hill,” the oldest free black, African American neighborhood in the country that has been continuously inhabited and still in existence.” Findings at this Easton site have enabled the researchers to date the settlement at 1790, predating Tremé, an African American neighborhood in New Orleans that is dated 1812 and that, until now, had been considered the oldest in the country.
There is no charge for this monthly public program sponsored by the Friends of the Talbot County Free Library. Guests are invited to bring their lunch or just come to listen. Coffee and sweets are provided. The program begins at noon and lasts approximately one hour.
