Talbot County Free (TCFL) recently announced that applications for authors and illustrators for the ninth annual Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival will officially open on Monday, December 18, 2023.
Interested authors and illustrators must complete an online application at www.tcfl.org. The deadline for submissions is on Tuesday, January 31, 2024.
The audience will be Pre-K through 8th graders. The upcoming Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is the kick-off event for the Summer Reading Program. The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Program is Adventure Begins at Your Library and runs from June 10 through August 16, 2024.
Around twenty authors/illustrators will be approved, and all will be notified. The Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival committee accepts traditionally published books, and a limited number of self-published books may be accepted. “We’re looking forward to inviting authors and illustrators with representative backgrounds,” said Laura Powell, Senior Youth Services Librarian, “and for the opportunity for children to connect with their new favorite authors!” As specified, authors with new, available books will be given preference.
“We are very excited for our ninth CCBF. We had a great mix of authors and illustrators last year and we hope to feature a diverse group of new and returning authors this coming summer,” said Timothy Young, Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival Co-Founder.
