In December 2023, Rebecca “Bicky” Warrington, owner of Shaper’s Hair Salon, and her husband Dan Warrington, owner of Warrington Builders, hosted their fifth annual poinsettia sale to benefit Critchlow Adkins Children’s Centers. The sale raised funds in support of the nonprofit’s mission of providing quality, financially accessible childcare for children and their families on the Mid-Shore in a nurturing, diverse, safe, and enriching environment.
“We are thrilled with the success of this year’s poinsettia sale,” Rebecca shares. “We love seeing people from the community visit the salon to get their annual dose of holiday cheer and support a wonderful organization. Critchlow Adkins is dear to our hearts, and it is our pleasure to help provide funding so they can continue their amazing work in our community. We appreciate all of the support from everyone who came into the salon to purchase these gorgeous plants!”
The team at Critchlow Adkins is very grateful to the Warringtons for hosting this annual supporting Critchlow. “We are incredibly honored that they choose to do this for us every year,” says Executive Director Cristy Morrell. “People aren’t just purchasing poinsettias – they are helping to build brighter futures for the children and families we serve. We are proud to provide the highest quality care possible at some of the most affordable rates in the area, and we are only able to do that because of the generous support we receive from people like the Warringtons.”
Critchlow Adkins Children’s Centers offers year-round preschool programs, Pre -K through 5th grade before- and after-school care, and summer camp programs at five sites located throughout Talbot County. Students engage in educational enrichment programming, including Critchlow’s innovative, literature-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) activities. These fun projects teach children of all ages to use critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, and instill in them a love of learning through play. Critchlow preschoolers participate in the Raising a Reader Program each year. Every week, students take home a bag of books to read with their family, which helps them to achieve a higher level of literacy and encourages a lifelong love of reading.
All five Critchlow Adkins Sites have earned Accreditation from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) as well as EXCELS (Excellence Counts in Early Learning and School Age Care) Check Level 5 Ratings. Check level 5 is the highest possible rating awarded to Maryland childcare centers. These are voluntary processes during which childcare centers undergo rigorous evaluation of their facilities and curriculums. They are graded based on a number of criteria, including the use of age-appropriate curriculum and multicultural lessons, family engagement, health and safety checks, staff credentials, and classroom observations.
Critchlow Adkins offers exceptional childcare, enrichment programs, and tuition assistance to local families thanks to financial support from individuals, businesses, and foundations on the Mid-Shore.
