Old Wye Church Christmas Bazaar Planned For Saturday November 3

October 24, 2012 by Spy Desk

For forty-nine years, Shore residents have come to the Wye Parish Christmas Bazaar to begin their holiday shopping or find that special handmade present or decoration.  Always on the first Saturday in November, this year’s Bazaar is on November 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds and in the Parish Hall of Old Wye Church, 14114 Old Wye Mills Rd. (Rt. 662) in Wye Mills.

There are more handmade item than ever this year –  crocheted hats and scarves, dried flower stationery, jams, jellies, and relishes, decoupaged and unique beaded Christmas ornaments, decorations fashioned from live greenery from Old Wye’s beautiful boxwood bushes– to mention only a few.  Many people find just the right gift at the Petite Boutique or the Gently-used Jewelry Table.  For the book-lover on your list, there will be gift books at bargain prices, cook books, and Christmas books for adults as well as children.  Specially-priced baskets of all sizes were a great hit last year, and they will be available again this year.

The theme of this year’s Bazaar is a White Christmas, and in keeping with that theme, there will be a large Snow Village display and Snow Village pieces both for sale and as a part of the Silent Auction.  The Silent Auction will also feature some attractive pieces of Ethan Allen furniture and many smaller items for you or someone on your list.

For the first time this year, there will be a cider press making cider to enjoy at the Bazaar.  A soup and/or sandwiches lunch will served in the Parish Hall. An outdoor kitchen will serve hot dogs (regular and white, in keeping with the White Christmas theme), hamburgers, and oysters. The Wye Choral Scholars, who have been invited to return this year to the State Capitol for a holiday concert, will set the mood with their music.  There will be tours of the beautiful, historic (1721) Old Wye Church.

Women of Wye Parish gather in the Vestry Cottage to plan the 49th Annual
Christmas Bazaar which will be held on the grounds Old Wye Church in Wye Mills
on Saturday, November 3rd. From left to right are Sharon Butler of Easton, Linda
Scheina of Centreville, Betsy Johnston of Chester, Jackie Oren of Queenstown,

Queenstown, Barbara Bryan of Easton, Suzanne Beyda of Grasonville, and Linnie
