Maryland Master Gardeners Bay-Wise Certification Available

January 3, 2013 by Spy Desk

Looking to learn more about responsibly managing your lawn and landscape? The Maryland Master Gardeners Bay-Wise Certification Program provides information and guidance on sustainable lawn and garden management. By implementing practices like wise lawn fertilization, proper mowing, efficient watering, and other environmentally- friendly practices, you will make your landscape more environmentally sound and positively impact rivers, creeks, and the Chesapeake Bay.

Maryland residents can get a lawn or garden certified in 3 steps, minimizing the impact on local waterways and the Chesapeake Bay:

  • Download the Maryland Yardstick, a checklist of practices to follow when landscaping.
  • Complete the MD Yardstick.
  • Contact Master Gardener Program in your county to sign up for a site visit.

If your landscape gets certified, you can receive a small sign to display and a certificate. Even if you don’t have your landscape certified, you can still make a difference by following the MD Yardstick and implementing as many practices as you can!

To get more information on the program or to learn how you can get your lawn or landscape “Bay-Wise” certified, visit the MD Master Gardeners website https://baywise.umd.edu/bwprogram.cfm and view the brochure by clicking here:
