The Democratic Club of Kent County is pleased to Catherine Poe as the featured speaker on Saturday, March 16, 2013 in the Main Meeting Room of the Kent County Public Library in Chestertown.  She plans to divide her talk between her experiences as a liberal writer with the Washington Times, strategies for reclaiming the Shore from the GOP in 2104, and looking ahead to Hillary Clinton and 2016.  Social time is scheduled from 9 to 9:30 followed by a brief business meeting from 9:30 to 10:00.  Poe will speak from 10:00 to 11:00.

Catherine Poe writes a column, Ad Lib, for the Washington Times.  She shares that she has been a Liberal for as long as she can remember. Last year, Catherine was named one of the top Progressives in Maryland along with Senator Barbara Mikulski and Congresswoman Donna Edwards. She has been a guest of President Obama in the Rose Garden.

As past president of Long Island NOW, she worked to reform women’s prisons in New York, open the construction trades to women, change laws to safeguard battered women, and protect the rights of rape victims.  Long active in Democratic politics, she served as the president of the Talbot Democrats in Maryland for six years and fought to get the Health Care Reform bill passed.  Catherine has been published in a diverse range of newspapers and magazines, including Newsday, Star Democrat, Rocky Mountain News, Yellowstone News, and the Massachusetts Review.

If Catherine has learned anything over the years it is that progressive change does not come easily, but in baby steps.

You can find her columns on the Washington Times at  https://communities.washingtontimes.com/neighborhood/ad-lib/
