Ismar Gomes, Assistant Principal Cellist with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony returns with his duo partner Wan-Chi Su, Pianist for this enchanting program of romantic works featuring Brahm’s Cello Sonata in E minor, Robert Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro, and Claude Debussy’s Cello Sonata.
Originally from Cleveland, Ismar Gomes is a graduate of Peabody and is obtaining his Doctorate from SUNY Stony Brook, though he has a heavy performance schedule playing with the Annapolis, Maryland, and Lancaster Symphonies, the Bel Cantanti Opera, and as part of chamber music series around the country. He has participated in several music festivals, both in the US and Europe; he is cofounder of Arioso Furioso, a baroque ensemble; studies early music and performance history, and has commissioned and premiered many works. As a teacher, he has coached chamber music in Baltimore, Cleveland and New York. Most recently in 2012, he was acting cellist of the Harlem Quartet. This is only a brief list of his interests and accomplishments.
Equally accomplished is his Taiwanese accompanist, Wan-Chi Su, who has enjoyed an active career as a solo and chamber musician––performing to great acclaim at multiple venues in Asia, Europe and the United States. Starting piano at age 4 she was an outstanding piano student earning her bachelor’s degree at Normal University in Kaohsiung and went on to win national and international prizes. In 2009 she entered Peabody earning a Master’s degree. Now in the doctoral program she is a dynamic, much sought-after chamber musician and accompanist.
It is rare to have two such brilliant musicians who, young as they are, have had illustrious careers and comprehensive experience in their fields, playing in Easton in a free concert. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity. Sunday, November 17th at 3 PM at St. Mark’s Church, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, MD Admission Free
