Empty Bowls Community Dinner Still Seeks Bowls and Donations

February 4, 2014 by Spy Desk

Share

The sixth annual Empty Bowls community dinner to benefit Talbot County food pantries, planned for Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, is sold out for the fourth year in a row. “The outpouring of community support just continues to grow,” says event co-chair Anna Harding. “It is so heartwarming to experience this level of participation.” While the dinner has reached the capacity limitations of the venue, there are still ways the community can help ease hunger in Talbot County.

First, bowls are still needed to accommodate the night’s diners. Clay Bakers in Easton is supporting Empty Bowls by sponsoring special bowl decorating. Bowls can be painted through Feb. 16, 2014. Talbot County Empty Bowls receives the decorated bowl and a portion of the fee. Bowl decorating groups of 6 or more should contact Clay Bakers in advance. Clay Bakers is at 1 S. Washington Street in Easton. For more information, call 410-770-9091.

Second, donations are very welcome. They can be sent to Mid-Shore Community Foundation, 102 E. Dover Street, Easton, MD 21601. Checks should be made payable to Mid-Shore/Empty Bowls. Donations can also be made at www.mscf.org. Then click on the “events” button at the bottom of the page.

Third, expanded sponsorship opportunities are available this year. The levels are Dutch Oven ($1,000+), Crock Pot ($750+), Bowl ($500+) and Cup of Soup ( $250+). Sponsors receive acknowledgement at the dinner and in post-dinner press releases as well as a tax deduction. For information, contact Susan duPont at [email protected].

Because the bowls, soups, bread and desserts are donated by generous community members, every penny raised from dinner ticket sales will go to nine Talbot County organizations .This year, proceeds from the dinner will be shared among Asbury Methodist Church, Scott’s United Methodist Church, the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Neighborhood Service Center, Presbyterian Church, St. Michaels Food Pantry, the Tilghman Food Pantry, CarePacks of Talbot County and Union United Methodist Church.

Organizers hope to expand the event to accommodate all who want to attend at next years dinner.
