The Plein Air Easton Art Festival has announced that Christopher “Kip” Forbes, vice chairman of Forbes Publishing, will serve as the jurist for its 10th annual plein air art competition.
The largest and most prestigious juried painting competition in the United States, Plein Air Easton names a new jurist each year who reviews, assesses, and ultimately selects competitors from the many exemplary entries. Organizers believe that this approach ensures a fresh show for the public and a fresh chance for would-be competitors. To be a Plein Air Easton jurist, one must have exceptional credentials and a confident perspective in order to form a great show.
Forbes, a highly regarded collector and author, is an ideal choice. He serves on the board of several arts nonprofits, including The Brooklyn Museum and The New York Academy of Art, as well as the Advisory Committee of the Department of European Decorative Arts of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. His leadership also played a major role in developing the Business Committee for the Arts (BCA), serving as a member of its board for nearly two decades. With extensive experience in cultivating the mutually beneficial relationship between the business and art worlds, Forbes has also organized many exhibitions and written several books, articles, and catalogues devoted to Victorian art and Faberge.
The grand prize for the winning artist in this year’s competition is $10,000. Artists who wish to apply to participate in Plein Air Easton should visit pleinaireaston.com. Applications are due no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, March 14.
