Maureen Scott-Taylor, a cancer survivor, co-host of the WCEI Radio Morning Rush and Executive Director of Baywater Animal Rescue will be the keynote speaker and will kickoff the American Cancer Society’s 19th annual Relay for Life of Talbot County on September 13, 2014 at 1 pm.
Scott-Taylor moved to Maryland’s Eastern Shore 24 years ago. Upon relocating to the Eastern shore, Maureen continued her career in hospitality at the Tidewater Inn in Easton, serving as Marketing Director and then General Manager. Over the years she held marketing positions with the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce, Easton Utilities, the Inn at Perry Cabin and the Town of Easton. Maureen was also elected twice to the Easton Town Council, where she served her constituents with passion and pride. In addition, she is a staunch volunteer in her community, serving as an advisory council member of the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay, Historic Easton board member, Rotary Club of Easton member, Meals on Wheels volunteer and Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore advisory board member. Maureen was named the Mid-Shore Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay in for her work 2012. She also received the 2010 Directors’ Service award from the Rotary Club of Easton on “Shoeboxes for Soldiers.”
Relay for Life Talbot County will begin at 11:30 am with a Survivor Luncheon followed by kickoff and 1st lap which is dedicated to Cancer Survivors. The Relay will take place at Easton High School from 12 noon to 12 midnight. The day will be filled with live entertainment from local musicians who have graciously donated their time including Katelyn Cherry, Michael Kelly, Wings of Glory, Y Not, Silhouette Song, and DJ Bud Becker. A Kids Zone, new to the event, will feature games and treats by Sabcils Ice Cream. Several local organizations such as the Easton Fire Department, Easton Police Department and Phillips Wharf Environmental Services will have on site demonstrations during the afternoon. Mobile food vendors will be providing a large variety food, beverage and dessert selections for participants throughout the day and evening.
