Auditions for Fiddler on the Roof, a classic musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and book by Joseph Stein will be held at Church Hill Theatre on Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday, Feb. 16, 18 & 20 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm and Sunday, Feb. 21 from 2 to 5 pm. Sylvia Maloney will direct this production with choreography by Cavin Moore. Judith Miller is the pianist/accompanist.
This unforgettable musical opened in 1964 and is currently being revived Broadway. Based on the short stories Tevye and his Daughters by Sholom-Aleichem, the play is set in czarist Russia on the eve of the Russian Revolution. The story revolves around the dairyman, Tevye, and his attempts to preserve his community’s traditions in the face of a changing world, caused by his daughters’ choices of husbands and happiness.
The Russian shtetl of 1905 requires 30 to 34 actors to bring it to life. Needed for principal and supporting roles are 9 men (ranging in age from the teens to the 70’s) and 9 women (ranging in age from the teens to the 60’s), 1 main dancer as the Fiddler (male or female) along with a singing and dancing ensemble of 6 men and 6 women. The cast also requires 2 girls, ages 10 to 13.
Please come with a prepared song and sheet music (2 copies). Auditioners should be prepared to read from the script and to learn a brief dance routine. Technicians are also needed and are encouraged to attend auditions.
