Izzy Mercado of Easton, Md., has joined the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., as Communications & Art Director. Mercado will be responsible for supporting CBMM’s branding and communications strategies through graphic and communications design.
Mercado has extensive experience in graphic design and art direction, working a number of years in the mid-Atlantic area. He studied at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pa.; the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Calif.; and the University of Delaware. He has an Associate of Applied Science in Visual Communications from Delaware Technical Community College.
“Working for an organization that honors the Chesapeake and maritime traditions, while showing equal passion for creativity and the arts, is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for a creative professional like me living on the Eastern Shore,” Mercado said.
A native of Wilmington, Del., Mercado’s lifelong connection to the Chesapeake Bay began during his childhood, fishing and crabbing along the Susquehanna River. The connection was strengthened when he moved with his family to the Eastern Shore in 2010.
Mercado’s volunteer work has supported numerous organizations, including Talbot County Young Professionals, Habitat for Humanity Choptank, Toys for Tots, Easton Elementary School Carepacks, and the Adopt-A-Highway program.
“We are thrilled to have Izzy working with CBMM,” commented CBMM President Kristen Greenaway. “His creativity has already translated in numerous projects, including promoting our Rising Tide after-school boat building program and the restoration of the queen of our fleet, Edna Lockwood.”
Established in 1965, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is dedicated to preserving and exploring the history, environment, and people of the entire Chesapeake Bay, with the values of relevancy, authenticity, and stewardship guiding its mission. Serving nearly 70,000 guests each year, CBMM’s campus includes a floating fleet of historic boats and 12 exhibition buildings, situated in a park-like, waterfront setting along the Miles River and St Michaels harbor. More information about the museum is at www.cbmm.org, with project updates on the 2016-2018 log-hull restoration of Edna Lockwood at www.ednalockwood.org.
