Free-Lunch Time Performance Series by Carpe Diem Arts presents Sparky and Rhonda Rucker in “Let Freedom Ring: Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” The concert will take place at Talbot County Senior Center, 400 Brookletts Ave., Easton, on Tuesday, January 17, 12:15pm-1:00pm.
The movements for justice have produced some of our most inspiring songs and stories. Join Sparky and Rhonda Rucker as they trace the nation’s struggles from slavery and the Underground Railroad through the battles for women’s suffrage and workers’ rights into the civil rights movement. Sparky got his start in folk music during the movement, marching with the SNCC Freedom Singers and playing freedom songs at rallies alongside such luminaries as Bernice Reagon, Guy Carawan, and Pete Seeger.
This program is made possible by the generous support of the Talbot County Arts Council with revenues provided by the Maryland State Arts Council, and by the Mid-Shore Community Foundation (MSCF), Dock Street Foundation, Brookletts Place, the Artistic Insights Fund, and by individual contributions to the Carpe Diem Arts Outreach Fund/MSCF.
