All are invited to attend the Talbot Association of Clergy and Laity (TACL) winter meeting on Wednesday, January 17th from 12:00 – 1:30 at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Rd., Easton.
TACL will provide lunch and activities designed to encourage networking and fellowship among clergy and lay faith leaders as we engage in this year’s theme of “Making Connections”.
Our speaker will be Julie Lowe, Executive Director of the Talbot Interfaith Shelter (TIS), an organization with roots going back to 2008 when Evelyn Sedlack brought together service providers and interested community members to discuss the problem of homelessness in Talbot County.
At our meeting Julie update us on TIS’s current efforts, including the transitional housing program, and will share the challenges and opportunities facing TIS this year.
Julie has been engaged with TIS since its inception. On the work to address homelessness through a coalition of community groups, Julie notes, “It’s a beautiful thing to witness collaboration between people with different religious beliefs (and those who do not subscribe to organized religion at all) reaching out to help our neighbors who are in a very fragile, stressful point in their lives, grappling for basic needs for themselves and their families . . . and to realize these folks are no different than ourselves.”
Julie grew up near Westminster, Maryland and holds a degree from Old Dominion University.
TACL is a welcoming interfaith association of congregations, clergy and laity, now in our 52nd year. TACL promotes spiritual welfare through works of compassion, justice, peace and reconciliation for the common good. TACL achieves this through education, relationship building, and diverse ministries.
