The Talbot County Free Library is now offering a new Computer by Appointment service at both the Easton and St. Michaels branches. Computer by Appointment is for anyone that needs to use a computer or printer or simply has an unreliable internet connection. Everyone is welcome – you do not need to have a library card to take advantage of this service.
Appointments are for 45 minutes in length and can be made by contacting the Easton branch at 410-822-1626 or the St. Michaels branch at 410-745-5877. Appointments must be made at least a day in advance and no more than five days ahead. There are no same-day or walk-up appointments.
Hours for Computer-By-Appointment are Monday and Thursday, 10 a.m. – noon and 4 – 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 a.m. – noon and 3 – 4:45 p.m.
“We are delighted to be able to take another next step forward and offer this much needed service to the community,” said Executive Director Dana Newman. “The public needs access to computers, printers, and reliable internet to search for jobs, to take training courses, to study for exams, and simply to stay in touch with people and the outside world. Not having computer access while we have been closed has been a hardship for some of our patrons.”
According to Newman, strict guidelines are in place for the safety of patrons and staff. Face masks covering the nose and mouth must be worn at all times, and computer work stations will be cleaned between each use. Names and contact information will be kept to assist with contact tracing should the need arise. “During appointments, individuals are limited to the adult computer area and the restrooms. The collection is not available for browsing at this time,” said Newman.
Each person will be allowed to print up to 20 pages free of charge during the 45-minute appointment. Use of the photocopier is not available at this time. It is important to note that because of social distancing guidelines, library staff will not be able to provide assistance on the computers. If a patron needs advanced help, they must bring their own helper/computer guide.
