The Academy Art Museum (AAM) is excited to announce an opening for the senior position of Director of Development, a pivotal leadership role at one of the Eastern Shore’s most dynamic cultural institutions.
With new leadership at the helm and transformative projects underway—including a state-of-the-art collections facility and nationally recognized exhibitions—this is a unique moment to join a museum on the rise. The Museum is seeking a seasoned development professional who is energized by the opportunity to grow a culture of philanthropy, connect with the community, and shape the future of this beloved institution.
“We are building a long-term team to carry the Academy Art Museum into its next era,” said Charlotte Potter Kasic, Executive Director of the Academy Art Museum. “The Director of Development will play a key role in ensuring that our mission is supported by sustainable funding, strong donor relationships, and regional community engagement.”
Candidates will be joining a museum with a $1.9 million annual operating budget, a growing endowment of ~$7 million, and a dedicated team of 6 full-time staff and 9 part-time staff. The museum eliminated its admission fee in 2023, deepening its commitment to public access, and continues to lead the region in meaningful programming across visual arts, performance, and education. Recent fundraising success has enabled ambitious capital projects, including the Freeman Annex & Hormel Research Center—a facility that will deepen the Museum’s curatorial and community storytelling capacities.
Founded in 1958, the Academy Art Museum is the only accredited art museum on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It presents 8–12 original exhibitions annually, including recent highlights such as Bugatti: Reaching Perfection, the Richard Estes retrospective, and this fall’s Robert Rauschenberg exhibition. In 2023, AAM eliminated its admission fee to ensure barrier-free access for all, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive engagement.
The Museum also thrives as an academy, with five working studios, a performance auditorium, and year-round programs for all ages—from early childhood through adult education, family days, teen internships, and a nationally attended Craft Show.
“We’re especially excited to find a development leader who knows and loves this region—someone who can activate local philanthropy while also bringing national energy to the table,” said Donna Alpi, Chair of the Academy Art Museum Board of Trustees. “This is a rare opportunity to be part of a team that is both future-minded and deeply rooted in the community.”
The Director of Development will lead all fundraising initiatives, including major gifts, membership, grants, appeals, and events. The position may offer flexible scheduling (including part-time options) depending on experience. Full details and the job description can be found at academyartmuseum.org.
