Brown Bag Lunch at St. Michaels Branch of TCFL

April 18, 2017 by Talbot County Free Library

Share

Bob Mason, model boat builder, will be the speaker for the Brown Bag Lunch at the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library on Monday, May 1, 2017 at noon.  Mason will present information about the two volunteer groups within the CBMM that are model related.  One, the Model Guild is broadly based in maritime models with missions for meeting the Museum’s needs for display models both new and for repairs. The other group is the Model Sailing Club in which members build or acquire 5 foot long skipjack models and sail in monthly races throughout the season using radio controls.  The competition is good natured and provides an opportunity to exercise sailing skills without maintaining a full sized boat. Detailed information about both groups will be available.

Bob retired from a career in engineering physics in which he worked on the conception and early stage development of electronic and optical devices including industrial instruments for measuring color and systems for recording and rapidly displaying photographic information.

In the local community, Bob has been an active volunteer at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum since 1993 where he leads the Model Guild, has been a docent and has served as President of the Volunteer Association.  At Pickering Creek Audubon Center, Bob served on the Board for twelve years between 1994 and 2007.  He has also been an active volunteer there, having spearheaded the bluebird nest box monitoring program for over 10 years, and served on the volunteer committee. Bob and his wife Marilyn live in Bozman, Md.The Brown Bag Lunch is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Bring a lunch and enjoy coffee and desert provided by the library. Information call (410) 745-5877.
