On Friday, March 9, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra with Jonathan Carney, violin and conductor, plays at the Todd Performing Arts Center, Chesapeake College.
The program will include: Elgar: Serenade in E Minor, Opus 20, Bach: Violin Concerto No. 2 in E Major, BWV 1042, and
Mendelssohn: Octet (Orchestral Arrangement).
Whenever concertmaster Jonathan Carney devises a program, you can be sure it is something special! All youthful charm, Elgar’s Serenade has a gorgeous slow movement that evokes the famous “Nimrod” movement from the Enigma Variations. The soloist in Bach’s sunny concerto, Carney himself leads a fascinating full orchestral arrangement by Yoon Jae Lee of Mendelssohn’s Octet, considered the composer’s first mature masterpiece, written when he was only 16.
All regular priced tickets for the BSO are $35 and student tickets are $10.
