Singer-songwriter Callaghan will perform at The Stoltz Listening Room in Easton on Saturday, November 5. Showtime is 8pm and tickets are $20.
Callaghan’s move from London to Atlanta in summer of 2010 is a classic story of taking risks and willingly throwing your life into upheaval to chase your dreams. A singer/songwriter whose music blurs the edges between Pop and Americana, Callaghan was drawn to Atlanta by an opportunity to work with one of her biggest influences – Shawn Mullins. Callaghan had reached out to Mullins on Myspace. After being knocked out by her voice and songwriting he agreed to produce her debut album calling her “a voice the whole world needs to hear.” In May 2012, she delivered Life In Full Colour, an introduction to her soaring vocals and dynamic style which the Huffington Post called “joyful listening.” Callaghan’s gone on on to independently sell over 15,000 copies.
Spring 2015 marked the release of her second album A History of Now, produced by Dennis Matkosky. “Who Would I Be,” one of the album’s many highlights, pays tribute to her fans, thanking them for allowing her music to enter their lives and for enabling her to do what she loves. “Crazy Beautiful Life” celebrates the joys found in the sheer unpredictability and exuberance of life, and “Best Year” is a seize-the-day anthem aimed at anyone who longs to leave it all behind… and find some bluer skies.”
A History of Now has enjoyed a great reception on both sides of the pond. Atlanta’s Creative Review called it “tunes to make even the most jaded pop fan grin” and No Depression said ‘Callaghan’s voice truly sets the music apart…nothing short of stunning”. The UK’s biggest national station, BBC Radio 2, has put three singles into rotation and BBC London’s Gabby Roslin described Callaghan’s in-studio performance as “breathtaking…absolutely incredible.”
This year has been a whirlwind of tours across the USA and four headline tours in the UK including major UK festivals like Cambridge Folk Festival, Secret Garden Party and SummerTyne. While in the UK, Chris Difford from Squeeze and the Buddy Holly Foundation invited Callaghan to be part of a songwriting retreat near Glastonbury attended by writers such as Nik Kershaw, Beth Nielsen Chapman and 10cc’s Graham Goldman, culminating in a final night performance with Callaghan sharing the stage with the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart.
This summer also saw the release of the live album Callaghan’s Acoustic Coffee House. Featuring guitarist Mike Gallagher and cellist Okorie Johnson, it captures 10 songs in the laid back, acoustic vibe of a coffee house session. Tracks include favorite originals, brand new songs and favorite covers including Annie’s Song, First Time Ever I saw Your Face and Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right.
Callaghan’s Fall tour follows her 4th International House Show Tour spanning 18 states, 5 countries and 2 continents. And, soon she’ll be back in the studio working on the next chapter of her remarkable story.
