Richard Goodall of Chestertown and alumnus Michael Hiner of Cordova, both long time advocates for Chesapeake College, will be honored at the 2015 Pride of the Peake banquet on Thursday, April 30.
“Dick and Mike are two people who have had such a tremendous impact on Chesapeake College and our community,” said Lauren Halterman, Chesapeake’s Director of Development. “They have been tireless in their volunteer work for area youth and continue to work to promote the value of education to our community.”
The two honorees, both of them Shore businessmen, have assisted Chesapeake College’s Foundation in fundraising and awareness efforts.
Richard Goodall
Mr. Goodall graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and served in the US Army. In 1970, he joined Dixon (a manufacturing and distribution company) and became company president in 1990. Presently, he is CEO of DVCC, the parent company of Dixon.
He currently serves on the Character Counts Kent County Board and is a Character Counts coach for Garnett Elementary. In the past, Mr. Goodall has served on the Maryland State Board of Education, Board of Directors for the Kent County Chamber of Commerce, American Cancer Society of Kent County, American Red Cross – County Chapter, Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, Kent County Educational Partnership, Upper Shore Manufacturing Business Council, and the Washington College President’s Advisory Board. He was also a youth basketball coach, high school swim team coach, and Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Hiner, an alumnus of Chesapeake College, began his career as a draftsman for Willow Construction of Easton in 1981. He held various positions at the company, where is now president and a part owner.
Michael Hiner
Born in Baltimore, Mr. Hiner moved with his family to Easton at age 12. He graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul High School in Easton. In 1977, he married Terri Sump, and moved near the Sump family farm in Cordova. The Hiners have two children, Michael Anne and Justin. Mr. Hiner has been a volunteer in the community for many years. His volunteer efforts include coaching youth baseball, soccer and indoor soccer for over 12 years. He has held leadership roles as president of Chapel District Sports Association in 1990, President of the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce in 1993, co-founder and Board Member of the Talbot County Economic Development Commission in 1993-1996, and President of the Easton Rotary Club in 2000-2001. He is also a guide in the Talbot REALITY Program, a Maryland State Police program to create awareness about youth drug and alcohol use. He is also a charter member of Toastmasters International.
