The Choptank River Lighthouse is one of two Eastern Shore lighthouses selected to be part of the challenge this year. The other lighthouses taking part in the challenge are located from Havre de Grace in the northeastern part of the state to Solomons in Southern Maryland.
Participants who visit the lighthouses during the challenge will receive a complimentary souvenir depicting that lighthouse. It is not necessary to visit all the lighthouses to participate and they can be visited in any order. Those who score a perfect 10 by visiting all the lighthouse attractions will receive an additional souvenir. While the Western Shore lighthouses must be visited on Saturday or Sunday for the souvenirs, participants taking advantage of the “early bird special” can visit the Eastern Shore lighthouses on Friday, Sept. 20, in addition to Saturday or Sunday.
There will also be an add-on Bonus Cruise departing from Hoopers Island in Dorchester County to see some of the Bay’s more elusive lighthouses.

The Maryland Lighthouse Challenge is organized by the Chesapeake Chapter of the United States Lighthouse Society, whose mission is to educate, inform and entertain those interested in Chesapeake Bay area lighthouses.
The Lighthouse Challenge is part of a busy weekend on the Cambridge waterfront—other events include the Choptank Heritage Skipjack Race, the Maryland Boatbuilders & Dealers Expo, and the Dorchester Center for the Arts Showcase.
