William Gordean, film editor and producer will speak about “The History and Inner Workings of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences”. The event will be on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m, at St. Michaels Library.
Bill Gordean is a transplant to the Eastern Shore from Los Angeles, California where for the past 35 years he has worked in Hollywood primarily as a film editor. He has also has worked as a producer and second unit director. His credits include: Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit II, Sharkey’s Machine, The Great Outdoors, Legal Eagles, Dragnet, Beethoven I & II, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I& III, and Rocket Man to name just a few. He holds a Masters Degree in Film and Television from Loyola University, and is a current member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Screen Directors Guild, The Film Editors Guild, and The American Cinema Editors. He has also been heavily involved in lecturing film students in the professional realities of film editing at institutions like USC, UCLA, Loyola University, University of North Carolina, and the American Film Institute.
He also created the very successful American Cinema Editors Intern Program which trains and helps place exceptional graduate film students into the art and craft of motion picture and television editing. Upon retiring to Maryland in 1998, Bill and his wife Carol soon founded the very popular Talbot Cinema Society, which exhibits and discusses classic films at the Easton Premiere Cinema once a month.
