Given what has happened in this town over the past two years, the burning question left to answer is “Can we ever believe what commissioners Bibb, Breimhurst, and duPont tell us again?”
Recently, all three seem to have been caught misleading or lying to the public. In the case of Breimhurst and duPont, a public statement was read that acknowledged we had been mislead. In the case of Bibb’s misstatements, his actions resulted in the delay of the completion of a project and may result in additional costs being added to the already over budget and behind schedule project.
Another link these three commissioners seem to share is something called SMAC. SMAC was a small group of originally unidentified people calling themselves the St. Michaels Action Committee and became infamous for accusing 4 town officials of ethics violations and for taking the town itself to court. After public pressure was applied, SMAC finally did release some of their members names. In a document published in the Star Democrat on 6/3/2020 the names of both David Breimhurst and Tad duPont appeared on an opinion piece along with 7 SMAC members who had been previously identified. During his individual meeting that he called “Conversation with a commissioner” Michael Bibb often met with several members of SMAC and discussed a vast set of topics including ethics charges. While charges brought by SMAC were never proved and were dismissed by the town’s ethics commission (just more lies?), no statement from SMAC was ever produce acknowledging their error.
Given the seeming close ties of these three to SMAC and their history of lies, can anything that Bibb, Breimhurst, and duPont tell us be trusted?

Exactly. Substitute Nazi for a descendant of the Confederacy to understand how ugly it is for those whose ancestors were tortured, raped and lynched, denied their rights, chased with dogs and water hoses and exploited just because of the color of their skin. Fast forward to people of color approaching a courthouse where they are seeking fairness. Where is the ability to put ourselves in the place of others, basic empathy??
