Endorsements from known, respected sources should be considered when casting your ballot. Those offered by colleagues who have worked closely with the individual are especially significant. That is why the Star Democrat endorsement article tells an important story – not one fellow council member has offered their endorsement to Frank Gunsallus, while two of three offer it to Don Abbatiello (the third has made no endorsement).
In addition, the former mayor of Easton, who served with Don, is a keen observer of current Council proceedings and knows what it takes to lead. Another colleague, the former Easton Fire Chief, has added his voice.
This outright repudiation of Frank’s leadership should give anyone pause if considering voting for him. Yes, you may be a friend or high school buddy and consider him a good guy. But, for Council leadership, you should be voting for someone who demonstrates the skill and temperament at this crucial time in the town’s development. It is important to look for judgment, the ability to bring disparate parties together regardless of political bent, and commitment to fostering an environment of civility that makes all this possible.
Anyone who has observed Council sessions can see that Frank does not exhibit those qualities while Don consistently does. That is why his fellow council members want Don not Frank as their leader. In a nonpartisan election, pay attention to that word and observe that Don, who is truly bipartisan, as his endorsements demonstrate, is the best candidate to transcend petty politics and do what is in the interest of the town and its citizens.
