Letter to Editor: Why I Support Al Silverstein for Easton Council President

September 4, 2023 by Letter to Editor

Share

This September marks my wife Susanne and my first year living in Easton. Adding greatly to the overall general charm of our new small-town life have been our gracious neighbors Al and Karen Silverstein. From advice to the best repair folks, help with the internet, doctors, and vet recommendations; town and immediate neighborhood issues and tidbits; local history and geography, both Al & Karen have been our personal Welcome Wagon. Quite naturally we all know the attributes of a good welcoming neighbor, but what is the root of being neighborly?  “We shall know a tree by its fruits”.

Being a good neighbor is the natural expression of character.  This is a simple and indeed ancient observation yet sad to say one given short shrift by far too many today.  As many bemoan buyers’ remorse with their former idols, whether political, religious, or cultural; we may do well to reinstate a concern for character when forging a pantheon of those we wish to represent us.

As a new guy in town, I have nothing derogatory to say of Mr. Silverstein’s opponents for Town Council President.  I know next to nothing of bond issues etc. I do know what Heraclitus told us 2600 years ago: “Character is Destiny”.  That is why I will be voting for Al Silverstein for Town Council President on September 12th.

I too recommend Al Silverstein for President of Town Council. Al has the experience and right ideas on making progress. Bob Wiley and Frank Gunsallus are also good candidates but Al Silverstein is the right man for us at this time!
