Library Offers “No Wi-Fi Access” Android Tablets for Children

August 26, 2016 by Talbot County Free Library

Share

Playaway LaunchpadParents can now check out Android tablets designed for children 3-7 years of age from the Talbot County Free Library.  As with all library materials, there is no charge for checking these devices out.  The Playaway Launchpads feature high quality, pre-loaded learning apps that provide children with hours of educational fun and interactive learning.  And perhaps best of all, having no Wi-Fi access, the Launchpads are 100% secure.  There is no way a child can reach the internet on one of these devices.

The Playaway Launchpads may be checked out for 7 days at a time from either the Easton or St. Michaels libraries.  The devices feature advertisement-free apps selected by childhood education experts for children 3-7 years of age.  The apps are grouped by age, grade level, theme, and subject area.  Subject areas include math, science, language arts, critical thinking, and creativity. Themes include animals, princesses, dinosaurs, fantasy, nature, the ocean, and more.  “We believe these devices will compliment the library’s early literacy programs and help prepare children for success in reading and school,” said Dana Newman, Library Director.  “It also allows parents and caregivers to try out the education apps with their children without any expense.”  The Talbot County Free Library is among the first on the Eastern Shore to offer these tablets to patrons.

For more information, please call the library at 410-822-1626, or visit www.tcfl.org.
