The annual St. Michaels Art League Arty Party on December 2, 2013, was the scene of the announcement of this year’s winners in the sixth annual Martha Hudson Watercolor Competition. Joan Cranor’s painting “Badlands” won first place in the judging by Barbara Jablin, who was a fellow student years ago at the Maryland Institute of Art with Martha Hudson, the founder of the annual competition.
Jo Merrill won second place for her abstract painting, “Autumn Leaves” and Sandy Alanko took third place for her painting, “Fair Winds and Following Seas.” Virginia Perram received honorable mention for her work entitled “Ground Cover. The Arty Party is an annual holiday gathering of members and friends of the St. Michaels Art League to usher in the holiday season. Martha Hudson, a well known watercolorist, endowed the annual award competition which is open to all watercolorist members of the St. Michaels Art League. The artwork submitted in the competition is exhibited in the Talbot Free Public Library, St Michael’s Branch.
