For the first time ever, the Mid-Shore Community Band and the Mid-Shore Symphony Society have joined forces to create an exciting and powerful concert. The concert will be held Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, MD. This event is serving as a fundraiser for both organizations so that they may continue to bring fine symphonic and concert music to the Eastern Shore. The Mid-Shore Symphony Society is responsible for bringing the outstanding Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to the Eastern Shore. Since its inception in 2009, the Mid-Shore Community Band has focused on providing quality music to Talbot and surrounding counties.
The MSCB can frequently be found playing various outdoor events around the shore, including the Waterfowl Festival, Flag Day, Fourth of July, and Veteran’s Day. This is the band’s first concert at the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College. The opportunity to play in such a remarkable facility is very exciting to the MSCB! Because of this extraordinary venue, the band was able to prepare a challenging and exciting repertoire, sure to please all listeners.
Some of the pieces include the powerful ‘Maelstrom’ by Robert W. Smith, the moving ‘They Shall Run and Be Free’, and a few cultural pieces, such as ‘Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song’ and ‘Danza Cubanas’. You can also look forward to some light hearted pieces as well, including ‘March of the Two Left Feet’ by Leroy Anderson. The repertoire for this concert was chosen by Matt Fullerton, the MSCB’s director. These pieces, along with many others, allow the MSCB to highlight the skill and depth of the ensemble, which can be difficult in an outdoor setting.
This concert is sure to entertain you, move you, and excite you in a way you never thought a community band could do. The band’s skill and dedication will be expertly showcased in this incredible venue. We encourage you to attend and be sure to bring a friend. You won’t believe your ears.
