Susan Jones, Tilghman Island, will be presenting a program of music and poetry at St. Michaels Library on June 20 at 2:00 pm. Her program, “Sing the Clarinet, Music and Words of Summer and Water,” combines a narrative laced with her original verse, plus selections for the clarinet. She will talk about her island home and about her experiences growing up in a water environment in Oregon. Her talk will include verse, narrative, and musical selections relating to the water and to the summer season. Quite remarkably, she is able to play the clarinet and accompany herself on the piano. At the same time!
Ms. Jones was born and raised in northwest Oregon. Both she and her husband Bob, were very active in the Portland musical scene, playing professionally and teaching privately. Susan played for fourteen years with the Oregon Symphony.
During their hopscotch odyssey eastward, she continued to play professionally – in Minneapolis, Indianapolis, DC – and in a leap to the west – in Orange County, California.
While in Indianapolis, she earned a master’s degree in library science from Indiana University. She began writing verse while working as a librarian in Indianapolis and now has a collection of nearly five hundred verses – almost all of them featuring amusing and intriguing vocabulary words. She has published two collections of her verses. More information is available at www.tcfl.org or by calling 410 745-5877.
