The critically-acclaimed Pope’s Tavern at The Oxford Inn will host an evening of exceptional wine and food pairings featuring selections from the world-famous Barboursville Vineyards of Orange County, Virginia on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 7pm.
Barboursville Vineyards has come to define the viticultural region envisioned by Thomas Jefferson. Under the leadership of winemaker, Luca Paschina, from Piemonte, Italy, the vineyard has garnered international awards that include numerous Gold Medals
at the San Francisco International Wine Competition.
The evening boasts six courses prepared by Chef Lisa, which include a venison osso bucco and local oysters three ways, paired with select vintages from Barboursville Vineyards hand selected by renowned Chief Sommelier Jason Tesauro. Among the offerings will be the revered Octagon and Viognier Reserve, wines that the British Embassy in Washington, DC chose for the evening reception in honor of the royal wedding celebration in April. In addition to a current pour, Luca Paschina and his team have also made arrangements to do a side-by-side tasting of a rare vintage from their library collection.
The cost for this special wine dinner is $85 excluding tax and gratuity. Advance reservations are required and may be obtained by calling 410-226-5220. Guests will also be able to purchase wines from the event at wholesale prices.
About Barboursville Vineyards
Barboursville Vineyards is Virginia’s most honored wine estate, having been founded in 1976 and continuously operated ever since by Casa Vinicola Zonin, Italy’s most geographically diversified producer of fine wines. General Manager and Winemaker Luca Paschina has been recognized, since his arrival in 1991, with 3 Virginia Governor’s Cups, 7 Monticello Cups, and countless regional and international wine competition Gold Medals, for “setting the standard” in Virginia viticulture. The estate’s most notable achievement in the last decade has been the creation of “Octagon,” a Bordeaux-style red wine blend which has drawn the enthusiastic praise of the world’s wine critics and more than 30 Gold Medals, with 3 “Best Bordeaux Blend” rankings in competitions in 2011 alone, for the new 2007 vintage. Octagon vintages have been selected by the Governor of Virginia to pour for Queen Elizabeth II on her State Visit to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Jamestown Colony in 2007, and by the Inaugural Committee in 2009 to be served to the President of the United States on the eve of his inauguration.
In addition to its contributions to the founding of the Virginia winegrowing region, Barboursville Vineyards is also the domicile of the most admired Northern Italian restaurant in the Virginia Piedmont, Palladio Restaurant; of extravagant and exquisite accommodations at The 1804 Inn, the owner’s carefully restored 18th Century Georgian residence; and of the Landmark ruins of Governor James Barbour’s residence, designed by his friend Thomas Jefferson and preserved by Barboursville Vineyards. No more than 10 minutes south of James Madison’s Montpelier, and 20 minutes due north of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, Barboursville Vineyards is the centerpiece of the Virginia Piedmont’s radiant heritage.
