The First Annual Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival
Saturday, June 11, 10:00 – 3:00 p.m. Fun for all ages! Meet authors and illustrators of some of today’s best children’s books. Make-a Book with the Judy Center, music, light refreshments, author readings.

GSK Science in the Summer: Oceanography
Wednesday, June 15, & Thursday, June 16, 10:00 a.m.- noon (for scientists entering grades 2 – 3) and 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. (for scientists entering grades 4 – 6). Directed by Kim Johnson. Sponsored by Glaxo Smith Kline and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In-person registration required, beginning June 1.

Red Cross Training: The Pillowcase Project
Thursday, June 23, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. For children entering grades 3 and up. Learn the importance of disaster preparedness. Each participant receives a pillowcase and activity book to start a disaster kit and preparedness plan. Sponsored by the American Red Cross. Registration required.

Adventures in Coding
Friday, June 24, 10:00 – 11:15 a.m. Class led by Matthew McCowan. For children 6-10. Registration required.

Puppet Show: The Little Red Hen
Thursday, June 16, 3:00 p.m. Enjoy the adventures of Little Red Hen and her friends Cat and Dog in this story brought to life by our own Ms. Carla. For ages 3 and older.

British Tea Party
Saturday, June 18, 1:00 p.m. Create a fascinator or crown, greet members of the royal family, and enjoy a royal British tea party! For ages 5 and older. Registration is required.

Adventures in Computer Coding with Matthew McCowan
Friday, June 24, 2:00 p.m. Learn the basics of computer coding with hands-on and virtual activities. For ages 6-10. Registration is required.

Shoulder Arms! Marching from Wye House to Freedom
Thursday, June 2, 6:30 p.m. Award-winning journalist and videographer Robin Caudell shares the story of her family’s connection to Wye House, her great-great-grandfather’s service in the U.S. Colored Troops during the Civil War, and her family’s relationship to Frederick Douglass.

Award-Winning Husband & Wife Authors to Read
Monday, June 6, 6:00 p.m. Art Taylor’s fiction has won two Agatha Awards, an Anthony, a Macavity, and three Derringers. His wife, Tara Laskowski, won the grand prize in the Santa Fe Writers Project Literary Awards Series. Taylor will read from On the Road with Del & Louise and Laskowski from Bystanders. Their books will be available for purchase and signing.

1st Annual Chesapeake Children’s Book Festival
Saturday, June 11, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Thirty children’s authors and illustrators of some of today’s best children’s books give readings, answer questions, and sell their books. There will be music, free food, make-a-book and other crafts. This program is sponsored by the Talbot County Free Library and the Friends of the Library.

Stitching Time
Monday, June 13, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Bring projects in progress (sewing, knitting, cross-stitch, what-have-you). Limited instruction available for beginners and newcomers.

Book Discussion: A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley
Monday, June 20, 6:30 p.m. The Easton library book group will discuss Jane Smiley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, A Thousand Acres.

“The Library Guy” Hosts a Discussion of After This by Alice McDermott
Monday, June 27, 6:00 p.m. Join “library guy” Bill Peak for a discussion of National Book Award-winner Alice McDermott’s great American novel, After This.

Arts & Crafts Group
Thursday, June 2, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Free instruction for knitting, beading, needlework, and tatting. Bring your coloring book, Zentangle pens, or anything else that fuels your passion for being creative. You may also bring a lunch.

Memoir Writing
Thursdays, June 9 – August 25 ( always excepting the first Thursday of each month), 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Record and share your memories of life and family with a group of friendly, like-minded people. Participants are invited to bring their lunch. Patrons are asked to pre-register for this program.
