On Sunday, October 25 at 5:00pm, Carpe Diem Arts will present a one-hour concert at Ulrika Leander’s beautiful Contemporary Tapestry Studio and Gallery, 5592 Poplar Lane, Royal Oak, MD, near the Bellevue Ferry landing – followed by a wine and cheese reception.
Featured will be the classical ensemble Beau Soir performing standard and contemporary repertoire, spanning a variety of musical genres. The musicians are Michelle Myers Lundy on harp, Carrie Rose on flute, and special guest Wes Nichols on oboe. Recent performance highlights include the Kennedy Center, Harman Center for the Arts, the Arts Club of Washington, and Dumbarton House.
Carrie Rose is dedicated to performing flute, composing, and educating young people and adults about music. She is producer, composer, and performer for the Origins Concert Series in Silver Spring, Maryland—-a hub for adventurous music seekers that features a world premiere of her compositions on each concert. The series is supported by the Arts and Humanities Commission of Montgomery County and her work has also received numerous grants from the Maryland State Arts Council and the American Composers Forum. In the City Paper, Carrie Rose was named a “favorite local composer,” and her compositions have been featured at University of DC, played by the DC Youth Orchestra, and at Strathmore Mansion. Ms. Rose earned Master and Bachelor of Music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Joshua Smith, principal flute of the Cleveland Orchestra. She teaches flute in her private flute studio in Takoma Park, Maryland, and general music classes at the Oneness-Family School, an international peace academy in Bethesda, Maryland. www.rosearts.org
Michelle Myers Lundy is a professional harpist who performs throughout the Washington, DC area. She has performed at the Kennedy Center, Strathmore Hall and Mansion, the Capitol, Supreme Court, National Archives, the Lyceum Museum, Alden Theatre and several of the Smithsonian Museums. Ms. Lundy is currently principal harpist with the McLean Orchestra and also performs with the National Philharmonic Orchestra and Arlington Philharmonic. She also performs frequently as a soloist with different choruses throughout the Washington, D.C. area and regularly works with the Thomas Circle Singers. Ms. Lundy is a founding member of the Beau Soir Ensemble (BSE), a flute and harp duo formed in 2007. In the summer of 2008, the duo recorded “Debut” and in the fall of 2009, recorded their second CD “Intermezzo.” The duo also recorded an hour long nationally and internationally aired broadcast for the “Hope Network” in the winter of 2008. She received her Bachelor in Music degree from Northwestern University in harp performance, and her Master of Music degree from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Wes Nichols, oboist, holds a Bachelor and Master degree in oboe performance from The Manhattan School of Music in New York where he studied with Henry Schuman, Elaine Douvas and Joseph Robinson. He is a former member of the Springfield Symphony (Massachusetts), The Group for Contemporary Music and the New Music Consort (NYC). After moving to the Virginia/DC area in 1993, he began to freelance extensively and became principal oboist of the Arlington Symphony (now the Arlington Philharmonic) in 1995, the Amadeus Orchestra in 1996, and the McLean Orchestra in 2007. He plays often at Wolf Trap and the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra.
