The St Michaels Varsity Baseball Team beat the Vikings from Cambridge South Dorchester on Friday at Baines Field to win the East Region 1A Title.
Bobby Schultz was the winning pitcher and by my account, only threw one bad pitch. That one bad pitch was to Stephen Koethe who hit it for a Grand Slam Home Run to tie the ball game in the 5th inning. The Saints fought back and won the game 8 to 5.
Once again there were numerous players with multiple hits for the Saints and very few miscues by the defense.
This will add one more flag to the Saints outfield fence with the capture of the East Region Title.
This Tuesday (Weather Permitting) the Saints travel to McCurdy Field in Frederick Maryland to play in the State Semi-Final game. The opponent is unknown at this time but one of the possible teams is Dunbar and if my information is correct they are undefeated this year. The Saints are strong across the board and deserve a shot at the State Championship for the fifth time in five years.
The State Championship will be played at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland on Saturday May 26.
GO SAINTS!
