The forecast called for rain and thunderstorms on Monday but the drizzle that fell did not hamper the Saints as they beat visiting Chrisfield High School 10 to 0 in a slaughter rule shortened six inning game. This was the Saints first game in the East Region 1A playoffs. The Saints are in first place in the standings, were awarded a bye in the first round and home field advantage for the next two games.
The Crabbers with some of their team members from Smith Island (they have to take a boat ride to get to school) drove almost two hours to challenge the Saints after their win over Mardella High School on Friday night.
The Saints Dustin Jones pitched a strong game giving up only three hits (two in the first inning) and finished the game with a shutout.
The Saints had numerous individual players with multiple hits and several triples were recorded in the record books.
The Saints continue their playoff drive on Thursday at 4PM when they host the winner of the Colonel Richardson – Snow Hill game that was played this afternoon. The final score of that contest is unknown at this time.
The spirits were high at Baines field and the stands were full of Saint supporters. Even the Principal, Mrs. Einhorn endured the weather and remained at the game until the last pitch was thrown. At one point when the drizzle was increasing I announced a raffle for the one empty seat we had under the announcers’ tent, but we had no takers as they all wanted to stay in the bleachers and root for the St Michaels Saints.
Be sure to come out and join in the fun at Baines Field as we continue our home field advantage in the third round in the Regional Playoffs on Thursday at 4PM.
GO SAINTS!
