Spectacular Train Exhibit Opens in St. Michaels

November 25, 2016 by Mid-Shore Community Foundation

Share

A spectacular train exhibit opens in St. Michaels today, November 25 at 933 S. Talbot Street, Unit 11. The hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit is provided by the David Adam Vail Cancer Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity under the umbrella of the Mid-Shore Community Foundation. The exhibit is free, but donations to the David Adam Vail Cancer Foundation will be gratefully accepted.

train-exhibit-featured-imageThe train exhibit is provided by James and Susan Vail of Easton. Seven years ago, their son, David Adam, age 27, was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma, a rare form of pediatric cancer. After a long and courageous struggle with the disease, supported by his parents and two sisters, Courtney and Heather, he passed away on July 1 of this year. The family has established the David Adam Vail Cancer Foundation to raise money to fund research into the management of pain and palliative care in cancer patients, with an emphasis on pediatric diagnoses—and to honor their beloved son and brother.

The train exhibit is the first major project of the Foundation. James Vail has collected model trains since he received his first Lionel train set on Christmas Day in 1952. This exhibit displays his extensive collection. After the three-day opening, November 25 – 27, the exhibit will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, December 1 – 4, 8 – 11 and 15 – 18. The final two days will be December 22 and 23. Families are encouraged to visit the free exhibit and to make a donation to the Foundation.

The David Adam Vail Cancer Foundation supports the work and research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City, where specialists are pioneering research in enhancing cancer treatment for children. More information about the Foundation is available on the Mid-Shore Community Foundation website, www.mscf.org, or by calling 410-820-8175.
