The Saints Soccer and Field Hockey teams have been training for the past week at the St Michaels High School sports complex. The Golf Team has been teeing up at the Harbortown course. The coaching staff for Soccer has some new faces this year and there is a new head coach for Field Hockey.
The Saints Varsity Soccer new head coach is Pat Hambleton, a St Michaels Graduate. Assisting Pat is Nick Werner, a teacher at St Michaels, and Jason Smith, another St Michaels alumni. The soccer lineup is in flux as we enter the second week of practice. There are approximately 24 students showing up every day, trying to secure a place in the starting lineup. Coach Hambleton has indicated that there will not be a JV soccer team this year so starting positions will be very competitive. The Soccer team will host Snow Hill High School on Wednesday September 5in the home opener.
The Head Coach for the Saints Field Hockey Team is Missy Cannon. Assisting Missy are Alli Femi and Kim Crouch. There are 16 girls currently on the field hockey team. Coach Cannon was very pleased with the turnout. There will be a scrimmage at home on Thursday August 30 and the regular season will commence on Wednesday September 5 against Chrisfield High School.
John Grow, a teacher at St Michaels High School, is once again the Head Coach for the Golf team. I have not had the chance to speak to Coach Grow but word has it that there were a high number of potential golfers at practice this past week. I will have more information as soon as I can catch up with Coach Grow and get the official count.
